USC Trojans win T-20 title with an 8-0 run.
The USC Trojans swept through their Division 2 rivals to come out unblemished in the T-20 tournament. The Trojans came out on top after a nail biting finish in the semi-finals against Ventura and then cruised past Pasadena to clinch their first T-20 title in the SCCA League.
FINAL: USC vs Pasadena
USC faced Pasadena in the finals, with Pasadena upsetting University with a come from behind win in another low scoring game. USC won the toss and Vishal and Pranay made amends for the poor batting show earlier in the day and tore through the Pasadena bowling attack with crisp shots. Vishal scored his 2nd fifty of the tournament and USC’s 100 came up in the 12th over. Vishal scored a brilliant 71 off 52 balls to set up the innings and Pranay played a superb 2nd fiddle but missed out on a well-deserved fifty to end up on 46. Sandhu scored a brisk 35 off 18 balls to help USC score their highest total in the tournament ending up at 170.
Pasadena came out swinging as both Sandeep and Maduka batted well to give some hope of a decent chase, but both got out in Sandhu’s over to reduce them to 46/2 in 8 overs. Usman and Vishal couldn’t get going as Pasadena stuttered in the middle overs. With 75 needed of 5 overs with 5 wickets in hand, USC started celebrating early as they gave away loose runs on the field. Noor, Manash and Sudhakar played well but the task of scoring 171 was too daunting and Pasadena fell short of the winning target.
USC had plenty to celebrate with a complete team effort throughout the tournament, lead by Captain Vishal Shah who was the 2nd highest run scorer and highest wicket taker in Div 2 and undoubtedly the MVP of the series. USC now has a 15-1 record since August 2012 and eagerly await the challenge of the 45 over series.
Special thanks to Coach Benjie for his hard work to help the team both during and pre-season.
Also, thanks to the SCCA Executive committee for organizing a great tournament.
