Viterbi Vultures vs Marshall Sixers match report
Feb 23, 2015 01:15 PM | Marshall Sixers won by 36 runs | ScorecardThe fourth match of the Spring 2015 Cromwell Premier League saw the Viterbi Vultures play their first game against the Marshall Sixers. The Vultures won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Marshall Sixers, playing their second game, showed an improved batting performance to post 159/6 in the allocated 15 overs, led by Sixers top order of Nivian Malik (52), Kamalpreet Kalsi (31) and Vikas Rajgopal (28). The Viterbi Vultures’ bowling effort was led by Rohan Basu who bowled a team-best 3/18, picking up the key wickets of Nivian Malik, Vikas Rajgopal and Tarun Sandhu.
The Vultures, having been set 160 to win, got off to an exciting start with Hamid Popal hitting a 6 and 4 before being bowled by Tarun Sandhu. Despite being on track in terms of run-rate for much of their innings, the Vultures were unable to chase down the target due to some timely wicket taking from the Sixers bowlers. Led by Tarun Sandhu’s 3/16 – with Yuvraj Talwar tallying 2 more wickets – the Sixers were able to bowl out the short-handed Vultures for 123/8 in 13.4 overs, giving the Sixers their first ever victory. Captain Paritosh led the Vultures’ batting effort with a fighting 49 (especially considering he was the only batsman to score more than 10 runs), which initially threatened to take the game away from the Sixers.
Fortunately for the Sixers, Nivian Malik was able to pick up Paritosh’s crucial wicket, and for his combined efforts with bat and ball (52 runs and 1/8), he was also declared Man of the Match.
