Viterbi Vultures won by 5 wickets
In the first of two thrillers on Friday, Viterbi Vultures beat Cromwell Champs by 5 wickets and with 2 balls to spare. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Cromwell Champs were immediately put on the backfoot by terrific opening spells from Tarun Sandhu and Anurag Atmakuri. After the early spurt of wickets, Guriqbal Sandhu steadied the ship and then tore into an inexperienced Viterbi bowling lineup. He went on to make 71 off 38; an innings studded with 8 hits beyond the boundary. Along with a late burst byRana Aijaz, who got 21 off 9, the Champs set the Vultures a stiff 165 to win the match.
The Vultures in reply, despite the loss of early wickets, kept up with the run rate thanks to calculated hitting from Ayush Goyal (an unbeaten 75 from 42) and Anurag Atmakuri (33 from 17). Ayush, in particular, showed no signs that this was only his second innings at Cromwell. He smartly rotated the strike and dismissed anything erring in length to the boundary. Despite some late jitters thanks to an economical penultimate over from Guriqbal Sandhu, late hitting from Saikarthik Desiraju, Tarun Sandhu, and Ayush led the Vultures across the line.
Ayush was declared Man of the Match for his splendid innings.
