Kolkatta Knightriders vs Kings XI Punjab FALL match reportNov 18, 2013 12:54 AM | Kolkatta Knightriders won by 9 runs | Scorecard
KKR won the toss and elected to bat bit first in the first semi-final. KKR lost Pranat early after which Prathyay and Kamalpreet took the attack to opposition and KKR were 26/1 in 2 overs. Arjun who was bowling a tight line stuck for Punjab getting the prized wicket(s) of Kamalpreet and Prathyay. KKR lost wickets in a heap and were soon 65 for 6 in 9 overs and in danger of being bowled out for under 100. KKR looking to finish at a respectable total were put under immense pressure by immaculate bowling spell by Abhinav who bowled a maiden over in 2nd powerplay and KKR batsmen were struggling to score against some very good bowling with score reading 75/6 after 11 overs. Punjab introduced Jaskaran into the attack in the 12th over and he could not settle into a rhythym and ended up conceeding 20 off the over which proved to be the turning point of the game. KKR finished with a fighting a total of 120 in their allotted 15 overs
With KKR's fierce bowling line up 120 was never going to be an easy total to chase , Punjab opened with Ankit and Jaskaran and lost Ankit early and things got worse for them when a miscommunication led to skipper Shubham being run out . Jaskaran was in attacking mood hoping to make up for his bowling spell but was out to a spectacular catch by Kunal Chaitalia. With KKR bowlers bowling immaculate lines and fielders backing them, Punjab could never get it going and just when they were getting some sort of partnership going with Dinesh and Sagar, another bad call led to a run out (DInesh) which completely derailed the chase. In the end Punjab were bowled out for 111 , 9 short of the KKR total.
Prathyaya was man of the match for his all round display.
